A Change of Face!

book face sculpture of paper art by the Unicorn Diaries Paper art can be traced back to Japan, where it originated over a thousand years ago. From complex paper cutting to book carving, this is an ever expanding area of design that is hardly talked about. These intricate paper designs grace museums and exauhibitions throughout the world and is becoming yet another exciting medium of expression for many designers. Some of the artists featured here use simple materials, such as A4 printing papeel, while others resort to unexpected materials, such as actual books, as their prime materials.

We hope you’ve been taking advantage of the Friends’ book cart sale. However, the metal carts will be removed in several days. The exciting news is that they’ll be replaced with 60 feet of proper bookshelf space! This change will allow Friends to offer a larger selection of books. Unlike a typical book sale, you may shop any time during library hours. Books will be rotated in/out on a regular basis, so check back often to see what’s new. Who doesn’t like the ‘thrill of the hunt’ and wallet friendly prices!?

Speaking of budgets... Libraries worldwide have been hard hit by the shaky economy and continue struggling to do more with less. Money raised by Ocee Friends (through book sales and memberships) goes toward making up some of that difference. These funds are used to purchase books, media, and to bring free programs to Ocee library.

Stop by to see our ‘makeover’ and shop an expanded assortment of fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books!
