Cookies came to America in the 17th century, although the name "koekje" ("little cake") arrived later with the Dutch. Popular early American cookies were macaroons, gingerbread cookies, and jumbles.

18 December is "Bake Cookies Day" but you'll probably want to start baking before then for holiday parties, cookie exchanges, and gifts. Ocee Branch has a nice selection of cookie recipe books in both the adult and kids' sections. Begin a holiday baking tradition or discover a new favorite cookie!
