7 March - Selma

Three voting rights marches were organized from Selma to Montgomery
The first of these marches took place 50 years ago today led by Hosea Williams and John Lewis. As a result of the marches, President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law - banning racial discrimination in voting practices by the federal, state, and local governments. AFPL has a number of materials about Selma, the Civil Rights Movement, and its leaders in their collection.
