THANK YOU!
First of all, thanks to our Boy Scouts and other volunteers who moved tons of books for the Friends Book Sale.
Thanks to all of you who came out to shop today and Friday! Not only did you get some get some great bargains but, your purchases help fund Ocee library programs - especially those for kids. It also buys books and materials that aren't covered in the Fulton Co. budget.
Until the next Friends book sale, please visit our Book Nook just across from the checkout desk. It's restocked regularly so you never know what you'll find!

Prince - library friend
"Compassion is an action word with no boundaries." — Prince
When Prince learned that the Western Branch Library in Louisville, KY faced closure in 2001, he sent a check for $12,000. Western dates to 1905 and was the first full service library in the country for and staffed by African-Americans.

Prince quietly gave millions of dollars to schools, shelters, and community groups across the US through his Love 4 Another Charities. Records also show that he spent 5 hours per week working at the charity.
Clean up you act!
The U.S. wastes more than 20
pounds of food per person every month.
Americans throw away enough paper and
plastic cups, forks, and spoons to circle the equator 300 times.
In 2012, the U.S. produced 32 million tons of plastic. Only
9% was recovered for recycling.
It takes about 450 years for plastic bottles to
break down in a landfill.
It takes 1 million years for a glass bottle to
break down in a landfill.
Glass from new materials requires 30% more energy
than using used glass.
Preventing one ton of paper waste saves between 16
mature trees.
The average American uses about 100 gallons of water per day.
There are 5 trillion pieces of floating plastic in the
world's oceans.

Happy 90th, "Liz"!
Queen Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to reach the age of 90. Elizabeth has reigned for 64 years and 75 days. She's travel over one million miles during her reign. After cutting back, she had over 175 official engagements last year. The Queen is mum to 4, granny of 8, and great-granny to 5. You'll find books on the Queen and her other royal relatives in the AFPLS system.

The quick two-minute survey will help us
determine which programs, services, tools and resources are most important to
YOU and the three million patrons who visit the Library each year. The survey
is open from April 16 - 29, 2016.
