National Pet Day

For those of us with furry, finned, and feathered friends, every day is pet day!

Colleen Paige created the day 10 years ago not just to celebrate the joys of pet ownership, but “to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters and rescues around the globe.” According to the ASPCA, 7.6 million animals enter shelters in the U.S. every year, and 2.7 million animals are euthanized.

Interested in adopting a furry friend? PLEASE make sure to do your research ahead of time to find the pet/breed that's right for you! Visit the library for books on pet care and breed specifics. Meet the dogs, cats, and bird at the entrance to Ocee, too.

(If you can't adopt, consider donating or volunteering at a local shelter!)
