“150 yrs. ago today, August 30, 1868: In Atlanta, GA, the “Constitution”, this week, has this about an emerging city treasure: “ Y.M.L.A.—The Young Men’s Library Association is now one of the established institutions of our city, and it behooves the citizens to sustain it as an organization of usefulness. It is one of the many evidences of enterprise which distinguish Atlanta as a wide awake, growing city. Though already in possession of a select library, yet the number of books is not sufficient to meet the demand of readers. The YMLA proposes to give an exhibition of Tableaux very soon, and a Concert about the middle of September.”
